Clinical Psychologist, focussed on children and women's emotional welbeing
Chris Barnes is a Clinical Psychologist, based in Sydney, and has been in private practice for over 25 years.
From her work with emotionally dysregulated primary age children and their families at Redbank House over 30 years ago, to her work with clients at a private women’s health clinic focusing on grief, loss, pregnancy and fertility, her passion for women’s emotional wellbeing has been a driving force in her career.
Chris has also worked with children and families in the foster care and adoption realm, consistently streamlining her play therapy, assessment, family therapy and training skills.
After having children of her own, Chris focused on her consultancy work with various large and small organisations, carrying out; mediation, psychological first aide to trauma survivors, EAP programs and assessments to determine readiness for work after sustaining injuries as well as training teachers on: resilience building, self- care and stress reduction.
She is an advocate for White Ribbon Australia and has been involved in various activities raising awareness and funds for survivors of domestic violence. Chris has also provided supervision for workers at a Women’s Domestic Violence refuge in Sydney’s West.
Working with mothers and babies has always been her passion. Running year-long psychotherapy groups with Norma Tracey, completing infant observation work and the New-born Behaviour Observation Course all lead her to Gidget House, where she remains as one of their therapists, also providing supervision to psychologists in the perinatal field. Chris also loves to be involved as a consultant on PNDA for the media and to heighten awareness of maternal emotional well- being in the community.
